I want to open a boutique which sells teens/womens designer clothing but I don’t know where to start?
I have been wanting to open up a designer clothing boutique for teen/women denim, dresses, handbags, shoes etc.. but I don’t know where to begin. Also, where do you buy authentic designer clothing in wholesale lots? Is this too big of a step for someone who has never take entrepreneurship or any other business courses? How much time (approx) would i need to devote to this over a year(because I’m still in school)? Parents and a previous job would help pay to open it but how much would it cost to open a designer boutique? Should I start with just denim and then add on from there?
So many questions, I know! But I will pick a best answer! Thank you very much ahead of time!
It is a big undertaking, but if you have support, you can do it. You need to get a business plan together. A business plan will organize the ideas you have into workable areas. It will allow you to research answers to questions like “how much do I need to open a boutique?” The answer to that depends on so many things like, where will the store be located? How much will it cost to lease the space? Will you work alone or hire employees? What is your purchasing budget? Technology budget? Marketing budget? Marketing plan? Who are your local competitors?
If it sounds like a lot, it is. There should be a small business resource center in your town. Go online, call, make an appointment. If you have employees you will need a Tax ID number or EIN. Licensing varies from state to state. The resource center should answer many of your questions about starting a business.
It will take planning and forethought, but I started my marketing company while I was in school, too. You can do it but it will be a lot of work.
Best of Luck!
